Costa Nova Jávea

The Firs is a small, fully authorised, independent British primary school, situated in Jávea in the province of Alicante.
The Firs School is a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS) and undergoes regular inspections by this body.
It is a co-educational day school offering a continuous education from Nursery through to Y6, ready for transfer to one of the local British senior schools in Y7. It is particularly appealing to those parents who value the  benefits of a small school where individual needs can be catered for and every member of the school family is valued, regardless of academic ability.
The school has a Christian ethos (though non-denominational) and is non-selective. It offers the full British National Curriculum plus Spanish. Parents are welcomed into the school and there is a friendly atmosphere.
Sound, traditional teaching methods are employed and standards are high.
The expectation is the same for each child, regardless of ability – that he/she works as hard as possible to achieve his/her full potential. Staff are experienced and very supportive, both with high-flyers and equally so with children with learning difficulties. Sport, ICT and Music are important elements of school life as are after-school activities. Good behaviour, kindness and consideration are expected and manners are valued. Bullying,
bad language and anti-social behaviour of any sort are not tolerated.

All in all, The Firs is a very happy school, it’s motto is
"Resurgam" – to overcome.

FACILITIES

The school building was recently redesigned and refurbished to meet the current   requirements for public buildings (wheelchair access etc.) and is fully authorised by the local authorities to operate as a school.

The site is completely enclosed and is set back from the road.
There is a hard-surfaced playground and sports court and, in addition, space is available for any future developments.
The building is small but meets the present needs of the school.
It is fully air-conditioned (essential during the hot summer months) and has central heating in case it is needed during the winter months.
The Nursery has a separate play space.
There is adequate parking for staff and parents.
Inside the building, the school comprises four good-sized classrooms, a computer suite, dining area, offices, staffroom, toilets and cloakrooms/changing facilities.

STAFF
The Firs’ staff are all qualified, experienced and dedicated British-trained teachers who have mastery of their particular subject area, endless patience, and a good understanding of how young children learn.
Most have Special Needs experience.
